I was listening to AM radio and the topic was 66% of American's said they were unhappy (yes I said AM radio...we can talk about this in my next blog, now let me get back to the typewriter).

What I took away from this conversation was, we are all so busy achieving greatness that we forget to live in the moment. Having hefty goals, high standards and big dreams are GREAT...however, remember while we are achieving our dreams also seize the day you are in, have some fun and enjoy your family and friends.

Taking care of the Earth is not just a responsibility--its a privilege. I recently decided to try and do my part to help save the Earth.

	* I am drinking tap water instead of bottled.

	 * I am leaving my car home or car pooling two days a week, this will reduce greenhouse gas and emissions by an average of 1,590 pounds per yr.

	* I am trying to walk to work at least 3 days a week. This will help reduce greenhouse gasses and burn calories!

	* I am more focused on recycling. Do you know that if an office building of 7,000 workers recycled all of its paper waste for a year, it would be the equivalent of taking 400 cars of the road.

What are you willing to do?

I am in LOVE with the fact that my home town of Cedarburg has a spice store. I’m all about Penzey’s! And I am not the only one. I just read this in an article. “Besides the obvious freshness factor, there’s variety, cost and expertise of the swamis of spice”. I need time when I go there because I just love to see all the different varieties and the scents of the store. Fire up the grill and spice it up!

It is finally here, the weather we have been waiting for all season .......WARM. It seemed like we were not motivated to buy our summer pieces because the weather was dictating jackets and umbrellas. Well, now is the time to pop in to check out our wide selection of dresses, t-shirts and fantastic accessories. We hope to see you soon!

I was driving the other day and heard the song by Florida Georgia called Cruise (if you heard it you would know which one I am referring to). It’s a perfect summer song. Each year there is that one song that comes out that seems to embody the summer season. And each time you hear that song again, whether it’s one year later or 5 years later…it brings back that nostalgia. Think about it…from the Beach Boys “Surfin’ Safari” and Jimmy Buffet’s “Margaritaville” to Will Smith’s “Summertime” and Kid Rock’s “All Summer Long”. Isn’t it interesting how certain songs can evoke such strong emotion? Not necessarily a specific event that occurred (although that might be the case) but sometimes it’s just a time period in our lives – high school, our first love, our college days..etc. I think the theory of music evoked nostalgia is pretty cool.

I love summertime in Milwaukee. The smell of the grill, the draw of the lakefront and the awesome festivals we offer are just a few of the reasons. And now when I hear the song Cruise…it will forever be linked with my first summer working at Faye’s!

Not one but 2 graduates for me this year. College and High school. My daughter, who is graduating from High School, was annoyed that she had to share her graduation celebration with her brother as she did when he graduated High School and she graduated from 8th grade. She said she never gets a celebration to herself. She said, "Maybe when I graduate College it will be only my day." I could not help but reply, "At the rate your other brother is taking to get through college you should both graduate college together." She almost tipped over. I of course am not encouraging any longer stay in college then necessary but it was fun to see her reaction.

Congratulations to all of you who have GRADUATED this year!

On Friday I had the pleasure of being a guest at the Women of Influence luncheon. The room looked spectacular and the women nominated were of incredible inspiration! As each woman told their story and how they became influencial leaders in the community it made me think of how my job with Faye's directly impacts Women everyday. I have had the opportunity to help a very special customer transform her style after under going several medical surgeries which changed her figure drastically. This was over a year long process and every time she comes to visit us I look at her in amazement with what she has overcome and how happy she is inside and out. It is so rewarding to know I was apart of her success... She reminds me that each day is fragile and what a difference one person can make that changes their life forever!! I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to help women on a daily basis to feel beautiful in their skin and as they leave Faye's know that they look incredible!!

All that time spent in a bathing suit at the beach in summer reminds us why it’s important to enjoy a healthy diet. But the truth is, too often we focus on looks as the sole reason to eat healthy. Looking great is just the proverbial icing on the cake. What’s your why for enjoying a healthy diet? Determining your true motivation for why you want to be healthy adds feeling and emotion to your goal, making it easier to achieve. Most people are not motivated my numbers on a scale, but they can picture themselves having more energy and feeling great. There’s never been a better time than now to be healthy. Focusing solely on your weight will leave you always bouncing on the scale and analyzing the results with your calculator. How boring, right? Health is so much more than a number! Counting calories is more a method of control over food rather than true balance. It’s just another way to fit food into the “numbers game”, but when we do that, we miss the bigger picture. Food is your fuel, not a mathematical equation. Food nourishes you on a very deep level and goes far beyond a point, an ounce, a calorie or a fat gram. Learning to listen to your body and discover what truly nourishes you is the key to healthy eating. Freeing yourself from the endless cycle of nutritional number crunching, willpower and deprivation is the way to truly balanced eating. And once you get there, you’ll never look back. If you’re a calorie counter and scale stepper, imagine for a moment what it would be like to completely relinquish those activities and be able to trust yourself. When you learn to listen to your body, you will learn naturally how to choose food based on the amount of energy and nourishment it will provide you. It’s a whole new way of eating and living…and it feels great! It’s so much more fun, and meaningful, than dieting!

This is a super sweet theory...

I was watching a doc on artist Wayne White the other day. He kept saying that, "Beauty is embarrassing."

My translation was when you see something or someone that's TRULY beautiful the emotions you experience can be embarrassing: awe, adoration, envy, submissive, obsessed, etc.

When was the last time you were embarrassed by beauty? I think I get embarrassed just about every day! Whether it's a pretty person in Alterra, a new line at the store with a great story (why didn't I think of that?!) or graffiti on the street that makes me stop mid-run.

This is a good reminder to embrace real beauty and think positive thoughts when you see it. Maybe even COMPLIMENT IT out-loud if you're feeling bold. Follow?

Photo: "Wall art" on the Oak Leaf Trail from earlier this year.
It has been removed since then.

In less than 24 hours I will be arriving to the island of Isla Mujeres, Mexico for a destination wedding with a number of friends from college (some of whom I haven't seen in years)! If you would open my suitcase you would find that I am bringing an abundance of items from the designer Susana Monaco.

Susana Monaco is one of my favorites...especially when I travel! She is known for her supplex material which is machine washable, you can throw everything in the dryer, nothing will wrinkle and is virtually indestructible. Take it from someone who can be extremely hard on her clothing....I've had some of her pieces for years and they still look as if I just bought them.

If you are not familiar with Susana Monaco....stop in the store! We just received in a new shipment and we are also preparing for the designer's upcoming trunk show from June 5-10 at our Brookfield location.

A colorful purse wall, a colorful shoe wall, a colorful Toms wall, colorful jewelry and brightly colored scarves and flip flops. If you’re looking for color to spruce up your closet, the new Mequon boutique is the place to find it. If you’re looking for black attire, go to New York City!!! The fresh look of summer is here but will be gone in the wink of an eye and another leg of the triple crown. If you don’t have that essential tangerine piece or bright green accessory, there’s still some fun to be had in the local boutiques. Enjoy the cheerful season…and SMILE!!!

I am the proud stepmother of 2 teenage kids, Kaila is 15 and Matthew is 14. I have been a big part of their lives since they were toddlers. It's been a roller coaster ride for sure. I haven't been blessed with my own children but if I were...I truly would want them to be just like my step children. They are amazing.

I wasn't with my step kids yesterday, they were enjoying the day with their Mom (who is a wonderful woman). However, I started my day off with a conference call from the kids - wishing me a Happy Mother's Day and a heartfelt "I love you". This call wasn't prompted by anyone, ie..my husband 'reminding' them not to forget me. That made my day, I didn't think it could get much better, but it did..

I worked at Faye's yesterday and when I arrived home, for the first time in over 10 years, my husband had prepared dinner for me. He actually made everything himself and it was fabulous! Salmon filet's marinated in honey, soy, garlic, red pepper flakes and green onion. He pan fried them in sesame and baked them - perfect! Also, he made rosemary garlic roasted red potatoes and asparagus. I really was surprised and it all tasted amazing. I know he made it himself, too because I saw the salmon wrap from Pick N Save and the marinade was still on the counter..lol.

My husband isn't one for many sappy words - but he told me I was the best Step-mom he could have ever hoped for his kids. It was the best Mother's Day I have ever had. Thank you Dave! xx oo

On Tuesday I walked into the Four Seasons…………….. nail salon, and I picked up the latest edition of T. I could not believe my eyes. Was the women on the cover Jackie Bouvier. My obsession began. I thumbed my way through leaving my DNA on each and every page until I reached page 182. That is were I discovered LEE RADZIWILL. One of Truman Capotes Swans, Sister of the late Jackie Kennedy, a European Princess, with romantic liaisons from Peter Beard to Aristotle Onassis. At 79, Radziwill has pared back life to the essential luxuries that have the most meaning: her apartment is sparingly decorated with treasured objects; her highly edited wardrobe consist of only the looks she loves best. She wears the same earrings and ring every day. Reaming true to oneself now feels so uniquely renegade. It is know wonder she was selected to grace to cover of True Elegance!

So if any of you are just as obsessed with anything that bears the name BOUVIER or KENNEDY your next reads should be:IN HER SISTERS SHADOW, HAPPY TIMES AND ONE SPECIAL SUMMER

Last Thursday evening our Brookfield store was decked out in pink....the fondue was flowing and our champagne was bubbling....all to benefit the Holly Christina Stahl Foundation. It was a night to shop for a cause as a portion of the proceeds were given in support.

Holly Stahl was a vibrant, lovely and gorgeous 19-year old fashionista who was tragically killed in a car accident while coming home from college in 2010. Her love for life was inspiring and although she was taken from us much to early her memory continues to live on through the scholarship money that is donated in her name both locally and throughout the world.

Cheers for Chella style! Definition: the fashions originated from music festival Coachella. This festival always brings such an eclectic group of individuals.

I had fun perusing the pages of WWD highlighting the looks this year. Styles range from full-on bohemian to boho chic (think R. Zoe). Yes please...

I recently watched the movie Lincoln with Daniel Day Lewis. WOW! I thought this was an amazing movie and Daniel Day Lewis was great. One of my favorite quotes of all time happens to be from Abe Lincoln - "Better to be silent and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt".

But in all seriousness, this movie got me thinking about how proud I am of America and our history. Especially the rights and freedoms that the US Constitution guarantees us.

The Constitution is important for a great number of reasons primarily because it was the document that founded our government, it was the basis of what would form the United States and amazingly because it was so well crafted and over 200 years later, we are still using the same document to run our country.

The Constitution is important because it outlines all of our rights as citizens. It gives a complete list of all the things that we can do, and the rights that we have.

The Constitution, and its amendments protects us, it protects us from each other, and it protects us from our own government, it protects us from wrongful prosecution, incriminating ourselves, our right to speech, our right to bear arms, our right to freedom of religion.

The Constitution isn't just important, it is the MOST important document ever crafted in American History, and the one document that affects every single citizen within the United States every single day. When you practice the religion of your choice, thank the founding fathers.... When you say whatever is on your mind without fear of having your tongue ripped out or having your head chopped off, thank the founding fathers....

Feeling sad...guilty...lucky... by Faye

Rick and I attended the Symphony Gala last night. And, of course, the table talk centered around the horrific events of the week. Everyone's emotions were myriad, conflicted, and swirling. There is bone wrenching grief for victims, but also sympathy for a 19-yr old kid who probably could not wrap his still adolescent brain around what he had done?

Then, there's also the sense of relief we feel that we and those we love dodged yet another bullet (literally!). Things seem so fragile these days, don't they? And, there's a sense that ANYTHING...truly ANYTHING could happen at any moment.

It's always a struggle to balance the privileged life most of us enjoy with the sadness and tragedy that surrounds us in our city, our country, and the world. How should we go about our daily lives? Should we be doing more?

Maira Kalman, a contemporary illustrator and essayist, explains how she manages such disparity. Maira says, "You're always balancing great hope and love of everything with great despair and sadness. I understand the wave of things keep going. And you muddle along." Maira muddles, I call it "putting one foot in front of the other."

I also find comfort in this Ralph Waldo Emerson quote where he exhorts us to "...find the best in others, to leave the world a little bit better, whether by healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived."

At the end of the day, can it be about anything more than having tried our best in our life's work, whether that is helping refugees in Syria or helping a women find an ensemble that makes her feel better about herself.

I'll never join the Peace Corps...I can't imagine taking a month off to help with disaster relief...plain and simple, I'm far too selfish and somewhat of a coward with a weak stomach. I understand that my rationalization of how I help on a daily basis might seem farfetched. But, it feels true to me, and like many of you, it's the best way that I have found to use my God-given talents and skills.

Everyone knows that I just love music. All genres - R&B, salsa, jazz, reggae, pop you name it. Sometimes I don't even know what a song is about, I just like the beat and on a given day I just might start dancing in the store.

Last night however I was driving home and I was listening to a Matisyahu mix I had in my car and the lyrics hit me hard. The song is called One Day. Here is part of the song:

	It's not about

	Win or lose

	Because we all lose

When they feed on the souls of the innocent

	Blood drenched pavement

Keep on moving, though the waters stay raging

In this maze you can lose your way

It might drive you crazy but don't let it faze you no way

Sometimes in my tears I drown

But I never let it get me down

	So my negativity surrounds

I know some day it'll all turn around

I know this song is more about war...It felt like a war on the innocent people at the marathon. After the bombing and all the footage on the first day, one can get discouraged. But then the next day we heard the stories of ALL the people who responded and wanted to help in any and every way possible...That means there is always room for Peace.

Many of you know I took a quick trip to Washington, DC over the weekend to visit my sister! And with the warmer springtime temps in DC comes something extremely special, something that many travel around the world to see. It's sort of a gamble for most that try to zero in on the exact day that the Cherry Blossoms will be out and at their peak. It is one day that the experts consider to be just that, and that day just so happened to be yesterday....I felt like the luckiest girl on the planet-my trip just so happened to coincide with the blossoms! And what a site it was. I have been to DC in the past and have visited the Tidal Basin and the monuments where the blossom trees reside, and I have heard all the hype, but I always thought-"well what's the big deal, they are just blossoms on the same trees that are here all year round". But I wish someone could have captured the look on my face when we drove to the Tidal Basin yesterday morning! It is the most serene sight I think I may have ever seen. The trees are all different shades ranging from white to dark pinks, and with the blossoms in full bloom they look like the trees from the Dr. Suess movie the Lorax....its the most heavenly sight!!

I was able to get a few candid shots, but you would never believe how difficult it is to even stop the car. The amount of photographers and people that come to the Tidal Basin and the Mall on this momentus day causes full blown insanity in and around the area!

Below is an overview of the types of Cherry Trees and the different color variations:

The Yoshino cultivar is the most common in D.C. and can be found encircling the Tidal Basin

Of the initial gift of 12 varieties of 3,020 trees, two—the Yoshino and Kwanzan—now dominate.

The Yoshino produces single white blossoms that create an effect of white clouds around the Tidal Basin and north onto the grounds of the Washington Monument. Intermingled with the Yoshino are a small number of Akebono cherry trees, which bloom at the same time as the Yoshino and produce single, pale-pink blossoms.

The Kwanzan grows primarily in East Potomac Park and comes into bloom two weeks after the Yoshino. It produces clusters of clear pink double blossoms. East Potomac Park also has Fugenzo, which produces rosy pink double blossoms, and Shirofugen, which produces white double blossoms that age to pink.

Interspersed among all the trees are the Weeping Cherry, which produces a variety of single and double blossoms of colors ranging from dark pink to white about a week before the Yoshino. Other cultivars that can be found are the Autumn Cherry (semi-double, pink), Sargent Cherry (single, deep pink), Usuzumi (white-grey), and Takesimensis.

I spent the weekend in Buffalo NY with my niece, husband and 2 year of son Jack. My niece is not just my niece she is my god daughter and the first born in our family. Needless to say she was doated on and I played dress up with her as if she was my very own personal doll. My brother used to make fun when I would watch her that he needed to buy extra diapers because I changed her so much. She grew to love Kate Spade from my love of Kate. And shoes how we love shoes. Was a tad disappointed when I had a daughter because now she would have to split my jewelry with her. My joy was to take her shopping and buy her beautiful things. She is now a full time mother, wife and lawyer. Something some how came up about her cloths or lack there of. And how she always get compliments when she wears what I have sent her to work. I quickly realized we had a clothing crisis. Her husband made mention that she doesn't do anything for herself and he has to iron for her. The problem is he leaves 2 hours before she does. I couldn't help but point out the obvious. You wear wrinkled cloths to work? She knew it was about to hit the fan. With her sweet husbands encouragement I attacked her closet. He quickly rushed to get 2 garbage bags. I had to yell down to him "we are going to need a bigger boat". A one point while I was cleaning her draws I asked about a piece and she said she wore that to Peters high school graduation. I said really he graduates college next month. She kept using the reference "that's for knock around". I had to ask knock around where? She said to the grocery store or to run errands. I said no house work and gardening. I had to ask who grew you up? She replied she doesn't have time and what goes with what and that needs to be ironed and I am not a good ironer. So off I went. She is now ironed and organized. I happened to mention how she better not wear scuffed shoes and her husband rolled his eyes and chuckled. She was so relieved that she keeps most of her shoes in her office in the winter because she wears boots to work them changes. She was mildly traumatized because after the afternoon of cleaning we were going to go to dinner just the two of us and we heard her in the garbage bags pulling something out to wear to dinner. When we got back from dinner the bags had been taken to goodwill so she could no longer rummage for cloths. She had to face the reality that some updating was required. I have made a list of the must haves for her closet and will shop for her so she looks and feels good being the best full time mother, wife, lawyer, niece/goddaughter she is. Anyone want to invite me for a weekend??? I spent the weekend in Buffalo NY with my niece, husband and 2 year of son Jack. My niece is not just my niece she is my god daughter and the first born in our family. She had to face the reality that some updating was required. I have made a list of the must haves for her closet and will shop for her so she looks and feels good being the best full time mother, wife, lawyer, niece/goddaughter she is. Anyone want to invite me for a weekend??? I spent the weekend in Buffalo NY with my niece, her husband and their 2 year old son Jack.

My niece is not just my niece, she is my god daughter and the first born in our family. Needless to say, she was doted on and I played dress-up with her as if she was my very own personal doll. My brother used to make fun that when I would watch her that he needed to buy extra diapers because I changed her so much.

She grew to love Kate Spade from my love of Kate. And shoes - how we love shoes.

She was a tad disappointed when I had a daughter because now she would have to split my jewelry with her.

My joy was to take her shopping and buy her beautiful things.

She is now a full time mother, wife and lawyer.

Something came up about her cloths or lack there of and how she always get compliments when she wears what I have sent her. I quickly realized we had a clothing crisis. Her husband made mention that she doesn't do anything for herself and he has to iron for her. The problem is he leaves two hours before she does. I couldn't help but point out the obvious. "You wear wrinkled cloths to work?" She knew it was about to hit the fan. With her sweet husbands encouragement, I attacked her closet. He quickly rushed to get two garbage bags. I had to yell down to him "we are going to need a bigger boat".

A one point, while I was cleaning her drawers, I asked about a piece and she said she wore that to Peters high school graduation. I said really, he graduates college next month. She kept using the reference "that's for knock around". I had to ask, knock around where? She said to the grocery store or to run errands. I said no housework and gardening.

I had to ask, who grew you up? She replied, she doesn't have time to figure out what goes with what and what needs to be ironed and I am not a good ironer. So off I went. She is now ironed and organized.

I happened to mention how she better not wear scuffed shoes and her husband rolled his eyes and chuckled. She was so relieved that she kept most of her shoes in her office in the winter because she wears boots to work then changes.

She was mildly traumatized because after the afternoon of cleaning, we were going to go to dinner just the two of us and we heard her in the garbage bags pulling something out to wear to dinner.

When we got back from dinner the bags had been taken to Goodwill so she could no longer rummage for clothes. She had to face the reality that some updating was required.

I have made a list of the must haves for her closet and will shop for her so she looks and feels good - being the best full time mother, wife, lawyer, niece/goddaughter she is.

Anyone want to invite me for a weekend???

Hello! Well, this is my very first blog as a member of the Faye's team and I couldn't be more excited. I have been employed at Faye's Brookfield location (part time) for a whole 2 weeks! But what an interesting 2 weeks it has been. I must say I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. I had worked in Financial technology for 23 years and after much consideration with my husband, I decided to resign. This wasn't an easy decision but really is the best thing for my family. I knew I wanted to find a part time job doing something that I would consider fun...which is FASHION. I was so thrilled that Faye had a postition open in Brookfield...so here I am!!!

The Faye's staff was so warm and welcoming to me, these ladies really take their designers and fashion seriously. They are all so knowlegeable about the business and have such a passion for their clients. It is truly inspiring.

When I say they were warm and welcoming, I mean it! I was immediately asked to be a model on The Morning Blend for the Faye's Fashion Friday segment!! It was really a fun and exciting experience. I modeled the Minnie Rose cashmere...GORGEOUS!! You must come see these beautiful pieces in Brookfield.

I really look forward to learning the "Faye's Way" of fashion and also look forward to meeting all of Faye's loyal and new customers!

When is the last time you saw the family members you love the most? When is the last time you gave them a hug? When is the last time you told them that you love them? When is the last time you heard about someone who said something to a family member that they shouldn’t have and ended up never having the opportunity to fix it? Sometimes we need to remind ourselves of our priorities in life and what is truly important. Take a moment to mend those relationships and treasure the ones you love. When we lose someone we love we are always reminded how important family is to us.

It's not always an easy transition, when we as women get older. The best thing of course is knowing who we are and what we want out of life. Unfortunately, our bodies age just a bit differently.

I read a quote by Ellen Barkin (famous actress) yesterday that just made sense of the whole thing...

" A Woman between 40 and forever looks great because she has style- not because she shows off her body".

Vegas...there's no place on Earth that's as over-stimulating to the senses. I've been to Sin City quite a few times, but my first market trip there took me to a whole new level of fashion extremes. The experience was a great reminder to voyage outside your box a little bit...every day. "Looking safe is never chic," as quoted by the editor of In Style magazine. YES there are extremists, but we can all do this exercise. Examples would be pairing clash patterns together (aka "dressing in the dark"), adding an extra accessory when your closet-conscience is saying "stop," or opting for the bold hue rather than the neutral. This season is full of high-wattage trends, and it's a perfect time for you to challenge yourself to voyage outside your box. Imagine a radio dial, and then imagine your hand slowly turning it up a little. That's Spring 2013. Let's get (a little) freaky...

“Stop hating yourself for everything that you aren’t. Start loving yourself for everything that you are…”

So, how can we apply this to trying on clothes? When you look in the mirror, instead of focusing on all the body parts you hate, ask yourself, what body parts do I absolutely love the best? Choose pieces that bring out the best in you. Happy Spring shopping!!!

What is everyone doing for Super Bowl Sunday? Even though I am sad that our beloved Packers didn't make it to the end....I still can't wait to watch Beyonce preform at half-time!

Here are a few fun facts about Super Bowl Sunday (thanks to espn.com)!

	1. Did you know that we had a potential threatening chicken wing shortage that was going to happen during the Super Bowl? However....don't worry, the crisis was averted and approximately 1.23 billion chicken wings are expected to be eaten on Sunday.

	2. The Super Bowl is the second biggest "eating holiday" after Thanksgiving.

	3. On Average 9 out of 10 people watch the Super Bowl at someone's home and not at a bar or restaurant.

	4. Domino's estimates that they will deliver 11 million pieces of pizza to hungry viewers.

	5. On Sunday 11.2 Pounds of potato chips are estimated to be consumed during the big game.

Have you been watching the progress with our expansion in Mequon?

We are adding approximately 60% more selling space to our Mequon store! We have taken over the former Spoke/Valentina space, and we're keeping our existing space. WHOA! (Completion date should be on or about April 1st, but you know how these things go.)

The new location will allow us to showcase our existing roster of designers much more effectively. And, of course, we’ll be adding new designers. If there are other collections you would like us to consider, we're all ears! Just mention to one of our staff or shoot us an email at BUYERS@fayes123.com

We could not be more excited and hope you are too? This would not be possible were it not for our loyal customer base and the steady stream of new friends we make each and every day.

	Thank you, thank you!

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, commonly known as Mahatma Gandhi, was the preeminent leader of Indian nationalism in British-ruled India. Employing non-violent civil disobedience, Gandhi led India to independence and inspired movements for non-violence, civil rights and freedom across the world.
The son of a senior government official, Gandhi was born and raised in a Hindu Bania community in coastal Gujarat, and trained in law in London. Gandhi became famous by fighting for the civil rights of Muslim and Hindu Indians in South Africa, using new techniques of non-violent civil disobedience that he developed. It is January 21, 2013, three weeks into the new year. How is your resolution going? I was just curious at what were some of the most popular/common resolutions so I went online and found this list.

New Years 2013: The Most Common New Year's Resolutions

	1) Eat healthy and exercise regularly.

	2) Drink less.

	3) Learn something new.

	4) Quit smoking.

	5) Better work/life balance.

	6) Volunteer.

	7) Save money.

	8) Get organized.

	9) Read more.

	10) Finish those around the house "to-do" lists.

Eight years ago if you asked me if I planned on staying in Milwaukee I'd probably say, "No thanks." Now...I'm completely attached. I'm constantly reminded of all the talent and creativity that lives here. I know it's not just me though...Milwaukee was just named one of the top 12 "Art Places" by the National Endowment of the Arts. Major props!

Last weekend was my new pal Jeremy's premiere party for his reality show, Made in Milwaukee. It was hosted at Mi-Key's in Cathedral Square (Flux had just finished a major re-model there--stellar!) Tune into DIY Network and watch sometime. The city speaks through them.

Funny side story: Jen and I had the good fortune of knowing about this TV show during incubation stage. It happened on a random winter 2012 afternoon, after an ice sculpture competition. We stepped into a bar to warm up, and ended up sitting right next to some Flux guys. We played shuffle board...we talked...and we got to hear all about this reality show that they were going to film. A year and some-months later...here we are!

Had the best “small world” experience with a client this week. We were talking on the phone about a special order and since I knew she was from my hometown I asked her a hometown question. She was surprised I was from there too so we got to talking about the old high school, etc. I said I’m sure she must have graduated way later than me and she responded by offering to tell me her graduating year, which was the same class as me!!! What are the chances?!?! That, of course, opened up a whole new conversation about maiden names, etc and we both promised to look each other up in the yearbooks. So last night I got myself up on a chair to reach the highest shelf of my front closet where my yearbooks are stacked up. After several things falling out onto my head, I managed to find what I was looking for. She DID look familiar, but our class was very large so I didn’t remember her entirely. But it was so fun go through the book a little and reminisce, and of course laugh at the 80’s fashions!!!

For as long as I can remember it's always been a Christmas tradition for our family to see "A Christmas Carol" preformed on stage. It's something I've looked forward to ever since I was a kid. Some might think it would get boring seeing the same play over and over again ever year, but for me I can always find something new to enjoy. Actors will change year to year along with sets, scenes, and the costumes. The play itself is always enjoyable along with spending time with my family during the holidays.

So-as many of you happen to know (or didn't know, but do now!), I am one of the many "lucky" 30-something's that happen to be out in the fabulous world of dating. So of course, when the New Year rolls around there always has to be something on the books in this category!

Well, while pondering this as I sat all alone at home to ring in the New Year with my biggest sweetheart of all time (Little Vee-my Yorkshire Terrier) I came across a very useful list of what else???....50 Dating Do's and Don'ts-how fitting, may at the time have felt somewhat depressing, but could be motivating, and happen to turn into some of my biggest resolutions for 2013???? Anyway, although I won't bore you will all 50-here are a few of my favorites!

	DON'T Look for Perfection.

Encouraging you to settle isn't our style, but separating your desires from your deal-breakers can give your love life a major upgrade. "There are some qualities that your mate must have -- being honest, for example -- and others, such as movie-star looks, that should be thrown in the would-be-nice category. Sit down and realistically figure out what characteristics are nonnegotiable and then be open-minded about the rest.

DON'T Assume that Someone is Not Into You.

Don't conclude that if you don't think you look cute, you don't look cute to someone else. So if you're running to the grocery store after the gym, and some guy starts talking to you and trying to make conversation with you, you may be thinking he just wants to talk to you when he's actually really trying to make a connection with you. If you don't think you look attractive, you might miss it.

	DON'T waste your time dating a show-off.

"The bravado? That guy needs to save it for the golf course." -- Justin Timberlake

DO go on a date with someone you feel so-so about.

If you haven't been on a date in a while, this could be the ideal opportunity to get back out there and practice. I recommend meeting up with the guy for only an hour over coffee or one drink. Because you're not invested, you really have nothing to lose -- besides a precious hour of your time that could be spent trying to figure out why no one is asking you out. (Sigh.)

DO allow yourself to be wooed.

It feels good to be treated like a lady. If a guy really likes you, he'll pick you up and take you out, not ask you to drive across town for cocktails and a sleepover.

	DO flirt.

Make eye contact and smile at anyone who catches your eye for three seconds. If he is interested, he will approach. In a relationship? Keep flirting! Continue to make him feel like the center of the universe. It will do wonders for your connection.

DO order what you really want.

Don't be afraid to eat like a man. A guy would love to see a woman with a healthy appetite!

	DO be aware of time.

When you're on a date, one of the ways to know it's going well -- if you guys are connecting -- is, as the date's wrapping up, if you're thinking Where did the time go? versus Oh my God, I'm so glad this is over!

	DON'T text.

Communicating by text doesn't trigger the same responses in our brains as interacting face-to-face. Texting is less rewarding and provides less of the chemical reactions that lead to human bonding. It's not like you shouldn't ever text, like if you're late or want to change plans, but if you've got anything important to say, including something seductive, texting isn't the way to go.

Now some of these are things that I need to engrave into my own mind-or else just deem myself a top candidate for the "single-for-life" group... However, these also may explain my constant frustrations-or-is it me???? Hmmm....TBD!!

So here is to a happy, healthy and prosperous (in the dating world for me that is....) 2013. I hope all of your new years resolutions come to fruition!!!!!

Italian tradition for Christmas Eve is "The feast of the 7 Fishermen". Growing up the Eve was our big family holiday with my Mom being one of 9 and 27 grandchildren. We all gathered at my Aunt and Uncle's house for the feast. We started preparing the day before, cleaning the fish and chopping more garlic and Italian parsley then you can imagine.

I have kept the tradition for my family however, I have had to modify 7 fish to 3. For several reasons, we don't like 7 different fish, it would be way to much food and last but not least it would cost a small fortune. This year I made 4 dishes with 3 different fish so I am cheating a little.

Traditions bring us home, modifications and all!

	Happy New Year.

On Friday we all heard the horrific story. We sobbed; our hearts ached for each and every one of the victims and their families. Why and how can this happen? Another shooting, children and faculty.

	What would you choose?

	Love or Hate

	Peace or War

	Kindness or Hatred

	Helping or Hindering

	Smiles or Frowns

	Light or Darkness

I BELIEVE that the MAJORITY of us would choose: Love, Peace, Kindness, Helping, Smiles and Light.

Let's Pray for those who would choose the latter...............
