Faye's Fashion Fest for Education...2nd Annual!

The famous Faye's Fest is happening again in August! How famous do you ask? Well not to toot my own horn but last year we made it on the front page of Yahoo. Toooot toot! We want to give back to our community and education systems, and this is our way of doing it...

During all of the merriment 25% of any and all purchases made at Faye's will be earmarked as a donation back to the school of your choice. Last year over 30 schools participated, and some of the checks we issued were for $1,000!!! I think amounts will be way more this year. The idea is simple: the more people that shop for your school, the more money you raise.

Moms, Students, PTA leaders, Teachers: how can you get it on this?? Have your fundraising committee or school rep contact me at cj@fayes123.com

This year we are adding a new "Style Star" feature involving student designers!!

m mag is chalked full of faye's stuff!

M Mag did an awesome job featuring our stuff in this month's issue.
Our Safia necklace is on the cover (worn by Lindsay Stevens Gardner). We've got some colored denim, ipad cases and Rachel Zoe ballet flats in there too! Good issue-- worth a read for sure

  Linda L's Amazingggg Vodka Sauce

Recently I've fallen in love...

The Faye's peeps were at a party of some sorts awhile back and Linda L. fixed up this crazzzy good pasta dish with her homemade vodka sauce. Being the mother hen that she is she dished out leftovers in individual little tupperware for everyone. Since I already know I'm not EVER going to live it down I will tell you what I did that night. I was so sly. I took TWO tupperware all for myself. Wow oh my gosh CJ how dare you. Did I take dessert? No. Just pasta. Everyone bugs me to this day about taking TWO tupperware at the party. Linda knew I had an infatuation.

Today...Linda....the lady with five million other things to do...walks in the door with a paper shopping bag in her hand. I KNOW what it is. She made the sauce. At this point I belt out a sound that comes out awkward 'cuz it's kinda a shriek but then I realize customers can probably hear me. She hands me my ration and I prance to my vehicle and lock it up for safe keeping. I'm like a squirrel with a nut. And, tonight...I ate pasta with some of her vodka sauce. With perfectly cooked pasta (Linda I hope you read this-- I literally took one of my bar stools and SAT by the stove so I wouldn't over cook the pasta). A little vino and I'm spent.

It's that good.

  the beanie is back

To quote from AnOther: "The humble beanie has been making somewhat of a comeback, most recently seen on Victoria Beckham’s A/W12 catwalk in New York yesterday."

In my mind it never went away! I wear them around the store so much that people think I'm constantly freezing or going bald. Oh beanie, I love you! You are to me what red solos cups are to Toby Keith.

  today is a sad day

My free TOMS bracelet split in half today. It was so faded and raggidy but I couldn't think of any reason to take it off.

It's been on since March of 2011.

Dear Blake,

If you see this please send me a new one.

  going dark

Did any of you go on google or wikipedia today? They are "going dark" to protest the PIPA and SOPA acts that deal with internet piracy and protection of intellectual property. Reps from places like google, wikipedia, facebook etc are voicing their concerns (apparently the acts were not well thought out).I think people are getting the point! Sponsors of the bill have been dropping like flys. Crazy how things are now-a-days, huh?

With wikipedia being dark, I pity any lazy college student who has a report due today!

  Outerwear Trends!

WWD published a couple lines about trending cold weather wear, and of course I was all about it. Some snow style is always appreciated in my book.

However I still don't get how ppl can ski/snowboard in those uber trendy puffer skirts. They also have them for running. Has anyone ever tried??

Hmm...

  Ode To E

I have this little history hobby- I mostly like to read about it, but I also supplement with a little audio and visual too. I've been interested in everything from Greek and Egyptian mythology to La Cosa Nostra.
ANYWAYS....I think fashion can leave it's mark in history, too.

"The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor" record-breaking auction just happened at Christie's. It raised over 156.8 million dollars...hmm. I think the coolest part for me is thinking about what it would be like to have something of Ms. Taylor's just sitting in my house. I'd probably want to wear it. Actually, I probably would wear it. The reminents of that old school Hollywood era are disappearing, and Hollywood will never be the same.

This is my over-due ode to Ms. Taylor. A fearless woman who really knew how to live.

P.S. Happy Holidays & Much Merriment! I hope you this time of year is full of good vibes for you. Kind of like the vibes Elizabeth got from her sparkly treasures...

  Community Involvement

Helping others and being of service to your community are two things we should all strive to do. Not everyone can afford to buy a table at a fundraising gala. But, everyone can afford to sacrifice a couple hours to community service now and then. I like to volunteer at humane societies and soup kitchens. One thing I really like about working at Faye's is that they are very into philanthropy. Being a member of the Faye's family has allowed me to do some pretty cool events that were for a great cause!

Take a moment to check out our Community Involvement page. We hope it inspires others to make a difference- no matter how big or small it is!

think local this holiday season (every season, really!)

"Small businesses are the backbone of the American Economy."  Fact!

Here are some perks to shopping local:
-You have access to local experts who are passionate about their products and your region
-You can find more products geared specifically toward your region and climate
-You gain exposure to smaller, more unique brands
-You're supporting a company that's vested in your community
-You are supporting more choice and more diversity!

For every $100 spent in locally owned, independent stores, $68 goes back to the community through taxes and services. If you spend it at a national chain only $43 goes back.

Please support your small businesses and local economy as much as you can this holiday season!  Sat, Nov 26th is Small Business Saturday....Join Us!

  pan am

I have a new #1 on my DVR catch-up list. Pan Am. And sometimes, if there isn't a "worthy" football game on, I will actually watch it when it airs! Yeah..big step for CJ.  It has an old school vibe but it's still risque enough to keep ratings high I guess.

Hmm this show is so not like me. I wonder why I like it so much....

a new meaning to homemade costumes...

My mom always did an awesome job of getting creative with Halloween costumes for my bro and me. One year I was a mad scientist...one year I was a clown...one year I wanted to be a homeless person (I was going through a weird stage and I refused to be anything else??)

But how cool would it be to have your famous clothing designer mom design your costume.
Here's Nanette Lepore's daughter in her custom made, one-of-a-kind, designer costume....no big whoop.

  What's your favorite charity?

Everyone should help a Good Cause, especially around the holidays. Sometimes volunteering your time at a shelter or soup kitchen doesn't always fit into busy holiday schedules. So, here's an alternative...

At a Faye's Private Shopping Party you can shop for people on your guest list (and yourself) and donate to charity at the same time.

When you have a party at our store we will donate 10% of your purchases to a charity of YOUR choice.
Which one would you pick??

If you'd like to know more contact your fav sales associate: Amy B.; Amy R.; Jandell H.; Katie K.; Linda L.; Linda Z.; LIsa L.; MIchele A.; or Sarah H.

  All The Hype...

I talked with our rep from Missoni a couple days ago, and I found out some interesting facts about the differences between Target Missoni and M Missoni.

Are you ready for this? I am JUST the messenger on this one guys!

Target Missoni              VS                         M Missoni (At Faye's)

Fabric made in China                                 Fabric made in Italy

Made in generic Target factories             Made in Missoni's factory

Made w/ blend of polyester,                      Made w/ blend of virgin and merino wool,
acetate, and acrylic                                     and nylon

Made using "2 yarn production":              Made using "10 yarn production":
Fabric is very flat. If it were to snag,         Fabric has texture. If it were to snag, it's
it would run down the entire garment.    very easy to fix by a technique of pulling
                                                                        through loose threads and knotting.

Hmm.....what's your verdict? Is Target Missoni still REAL Missoni?? Eh...does anyone even care anymore??? ;)

  Wising Up To The Occasion

Being in marketing, I'm on my toes to hear what TOMS  next chapter of the One-for-One campaign is. Only 1 day left until the big announcement.

But, we have our own TOMS announcement too...
I had a chance to meet with our TOMS rep the other week and he brought along the entire sample stock of FALL 2011 TOMS. We picked the latest and greatest for the next season! Including some shearling lined booties and new glitter styles (have a sneak peek below).

Don't forget to check out our new TOMS arrivals for Summer...we have the Bimini style boating slip-on and a slate colored slip-on from their Earthwise line (obviously my fav). The Earthwise line is vegan friendly (no animal products) and made with recycled and sustainable materials. Be kinder to the Earth and put a pair of shoes on a needy kiddo's feet-- it's a double hitter.

Festing For Fashion: Clothes, More Clothes and Cowboys!

The very first Faye's Fashion Fest for Education was a sweet success! We will end up donating over $4,000 to local area schools. Cross your fingers for a Peace Prize nomination...just kidding...but it's a start in a good direction, right? Thank you to everyone who helped make the event: the students who invited buddies and parents to come shop w/ them; the moms and relatives that shopped for a good cause (what better excuse?); the press for helping us get the word out there; Blush Beauty for giving free makeovers; and Bjorn Nasset for helping us look our very best w/ his insightful fashion advice.
Check out our facebook page for pictures...we may have ran in to Cowboy Troy amidst all the Fashion Fest action...yeehaw.

  Ali The Awesome Intern

The marketing and advertising biz involves a lot of multi-tasking...I have to set priorities in order to keep ahead of the curve. Some things absolutely must take a back seat to others. For instance, the project of attaching breath mints to 250 Faye's handouts for a luncheon next week. A light bulb popped on above my head and I thought, "This sounds like the epitome of intern work!" So my blog shout out is to our new intern in Brookfield,  Ali Close. Thanks Close for doing my dirty work. I'm happy to have you as a fellow Faye's comrade. No one ever gets far before getting your hands a little dirty...gluey in this situation.

  TOM'S BAREFOOT WALK

A few weeks ago Sam Sablich, a student at Mt. Mary College, came in to Faye's and told me about her Barefoot Walk that she was hosting on campus. Faye's has been involved with TOM'S "One Day Without Shoes" (on April 5th this year) for two years now, so I was happy to support Sam's cause and take the walk!

The grounds keeper on campus mapped out a course for us...we ventured through cold, swampy wetlands and an old parking lot with lots of sharp stones.  Walking around with out shoes really was lousy. One of my fellow walkers was a local woman who is in the process of adopting a child from Ethiopia. She said, "None of the children have shoes there, it's crazy." Be thankful for the small luxury of having a pair of shoes. Donate your old ones. Or, organize a walk on http://www.takethewalk.net/ where you can raise money and choose which cause you'd like to support (one being Donate Shoes). I will say it one more time....BE THANKFUL.

Check out the walk photos on our facebook page

In Sunny LA- The Land of Micro Mini Skirts

It's so crazy how the fashion differs from coast to coast. Granted the weather in LA is a little warmer, but it just seems like everything is a bit more contemporary around here. The condensed version of our observations? Skirts are short; almost everyone walks around in 4 inch heels (ALL DAY!); and they wear sooo many bracelets (enough for FAYE to even comment on the excessiveness). We can't help but feel the good vibes though. This is a great market for our contemporary peeps and we feel it.

Lines that we conquered:

KUT: Great denim jackets and lots of "bling jeans" as we like to call them.
SUSS: Fresh-looking sweaters with a Scandinavian influence.
URBAN BEHAVIOR: Line from Canada that is inexpensive and FUN. They have things like cropped vests and print maxi dresses for fall.
JET: What's more fitting in LA than Josh Eshaya tees?? Now he has an entire collection for us to look at.
PLASTIC ISLAND: Pieces are "trendy but understandable". Cute and very reasonably priced for all.
G1: We have lots of cargos and skirts by them right now. Expect more great stuff for fall! They mixed in some textures too like velvet and wool.
YOON: Contemporary twist on cashmere sweaters...and...the prices are GOOD.
AWAKE COUTURE: These tees were too silly and cute to pass up. They have things like the Coca Cola image and a picture of Woodstock (place, not bird) rendered on them.
291 VENICE: Faye's favorite find of the day! Rock star cashmere sweaters, fabulous printed tunic tees w/ sassy sayings and vintage band graphics.
WOODLEIGH: Lots of combos here! Modal type t-shirt fabric with different textured backs or sleeves. Lots of crochet; combo fabrics; oversized-ness; dolman sleeves; off the shoulder looks; etc.
MYSTREE: Another "cheap and cheerful" line. We are striking it rich for you guys! Everything from sweaters to dresses to outerwear and fur vests.
CAMEO: Organic tees! Made in LA...lots of good lookin' washed colors.
DEPT: Hard to describe...the cute dude making lattes at the showroom distracted us. Wups.

And that's about one day's worth...if that!

Did we place orders? Hmmm guess you'll have to wait and see...

  NYC Has been Conquered

Just last week we were in NYC to pick out what will hit the racks @ Faye's for Fall 2011. It's kind of hard to grasp (I still have issues w/ it) but it's pretty cool because now we can let you know what to invest in NOW that will be good for LATER, too. Our fast pace retail world works to your advantage!

Here is my "observation list' of what to buy and wear for NOW and LATER:

-Denim jacket
-Camo inspired stuff (!!!) If you think I'm joking check out the runway pic
-Maxi skirts and dresses...the longer lengths will help keep warm once Fall hits
-Plaids...still! Hey, I'm NOT complaining
-Go West...meaning cowboy boots, honkin' belt buckles, and fringey stuff
-Textured things...whatever floats your boat: chunky knits, velvet, fur, feathers etc...
-"Royal Blue" or "Mustard" colored things

Fall 2011 Coterie is DONE...by the way...Happy Spring ;)

Rodgers is supposed to be a fashion guru now?

So I kind of have some beef with this article that WWD recently published. Aaron Rodgers is the quarterback for THE GREEN BAY PACKERS...I don't think he's supposed to be a fashion guru. Maybe it's the Wisconi native in me that is more understanding. Nobody really critiqued Brett Favre's wrangler wardrobe, so what gives?
I understand there would be a few exceptions to this case...Tom Brady and David Beckham come to mind, but then again look at who they're married to.

Anyways...

Dear WWD,

Please leave our Green Bay Packers alone.

Respectfully,

CJ

The "Feel Good Purchase of the Year" Award goes to this company! TOMS is the name behind the "One for One" campaign. For every pair purchased, TOMS will give a new pair of a shoes to a child in need. Well...Faye's just received in over 300 new pairs of TOMS, so that means 300 pairs will be given to the kiddies. We couldn't be more happier about that, and if you've purchased a pair of TOMS from Faye's in the past then you can feel happy about it too.
For those of you who haven't...doesn't this kind of make you want to???

Check out our new styles: http://www.fayes123.com/new-arrivals/toms

We also have black, grey, olive, red and navy. Some glitters left, too.

  ALOHA

Some like to play in the snow, and some like to bask in the sunshine (and if you're like me...you dig both). Going somewhere warm soon? We'd like to hear where you are going and what you will pack for clothing/accessory essentials on your journey. I bet some peeps have really good packing tips to share.

If you need inspiration take a look at our Tory Buch Resort '11 Totes or cheap-n-cheerful frocks by Theme that just came in. Tempting, eh? 25% off thru Christmas eve...

  Spotted!

Those of you who know me will find this next line hilarious. I was watching The View on Wednesday. Yes...that's right...CJ was watching The View. HILARIOUS! Ok I have to admit I'm not huge TV person (especially daytime) but I was waiting to get my oil changed and that's what they had on for my viewing pleasure. Anyways, I was watching The View and my eyes perked up as soon as I realized Elizabeth Hasselbeck was wearing one of OUR Diane von Furstenberg dresses. I KNEW there was a reason for this strange daytime TV encounter. She looked really good in it. But then again I think anyone could look pretty smokin' in a DVF dress. -CJ

  CJ's Favorite Things

Oprah shmo-prah! I've got some favorite things too...

1. Joe's Jeans...any style, any fit. They feel SO GOOD to wear, and with all the the different styles now you really don't have to be a low-rise girl or skinny leg girl. You can be a high-waist bootcut girl, or a mid-rise straight leg girl...the possibilities are endless.

2. Anna Beck Jewelry...the necklaces and earrings are delicate enough to wear every day but they are extremely eye-catching (they twinkle!). Her new, mini charm necklaces would make an awesome gift and the best part is that they are reversible (one side of the charm is hammered gold, and the other is hammered silver), so switch it up!

Happy Thanksgiving Day to you! Don't bother with that 3 AM crazy-ness on Friday, ok? Please? For your health people. I think I would go into cardiac arrest if I had to be at the front lines of ALL THAT. Treat yourself to a long, happy slumber and then come to Faye's. Our "doorbuster" starts at 10 AM on Friday and it will be festive, fun and free of stampedes. -CJ

  Cashmere is coming to town!

Guess what? We are having a White+Warren Cashmere event really, really soon. The events page will be updated within a couple of days to tell you when it will be at each store. Until then, you can practice how you are going to wear your cashmere travel wrap by watching this youtube video that White + Warren made, ha awesome!
Click the link.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVo7qSC-H4A

The travel wraps and basics are "genius" as I like to say. They feel so good. I'd much rather buy a few well-made pieces from W+W then attempt to find something cheaper (and probably under par in quality) that is going to end up pilling or scratching me to death. Are you w/ me on this issue??

What in the world is a "Booty Booth"?

Gonna' make this short and sweet...we're working the night shift. Tomorrow night (Friday, November 12th) from 6-10 PM I am gathering up my team of denim experts and hosting a BOOTY BOOTH at the Junior League Holiday Boutique. The BOOTY BOOTH is the ultimate chance to find the perfect pair of jeans for you and your...um...booty! You get one-on-one attention from a Faye's staff member and you know we are gonna work our booties off to get you in the perfect pair. OK, I will stop with the booty references. Are you coming or what? I made a homemade sign for the booth and I got a pirate treasure chest lunchbox that will be full of candy to compliment the booty theme. Get it? Pirate booty...booty booth...genius, obviously. Oh yeah, we are bringing TOMS Shoes too...glitter styles and all.

Click here for info on where the boutique is located and how to get tickets. "Shopping After Dark" event on Friday from 6-10 PM will have "specialty drinks" and appetizers. I mean they are going all out...they may even have a Lady Gaga impersonator and a disco ball. I joke...it will be fun though.

P.S. Faye will be manning the holiday boutique during the day shift. And you know how hard it is to see her in-person now-a-days, so you should probably stop by to say Hi and get your stash of texting gloves and other fun treasures.

  Our 1st Blog Entry

Well it's finally here! And I am very impressed with how it turned out. Truth be told, I can be technology challenged sometimes...so, I hope you find the new fayes123.com as easy and fun as I did. Here are some new things to look for:

1. The  Reviews page. This is where you can post feedback about a recent shopping trip into Faye's or even if you just want to leave a comment about the merchandise or the staff...we are always listening and respect the feedback.

2. The Blog page. You are here...nice work! Don't forget to leave a comment please. And check back soon because Faye and the staff will be blogging often.

3. The New Arrivals and Trends pages. These are not new, BUT now you can click on pictures to get a larger, detailed view of them...genius, obviously.

4. The Events page. Again, not new, but it's a totally different set-up... it's super organized and very easy to see what's happening at the store (a little eerie at how neat we are becoming, eh?) Bottom Line: No more scrolling down foreverrr.

All of the Faye's staff hopes that you enjoy exploring the new fayes123.com. Honestly you can probably burn a few calories with all the clicking you can do on here now...Ready, Set, Go.
